This camera boasts that it can shoot and display 3D video in a pocket-portable format (unlike Panasonic’s monster of a camcorder) but what they don’t tell you is that in order to do so, DCG had to opt for 3D over HD.  That means you’re getting plain old standard definition video (albeit in 3D) for a monster price tag.  Is it worth it?  You be the judge.
This Hammacher-Schlemmer camera comes equipped with its own separate 7 inch media player with 800 X 480 resolution that’s capable of playing back your 3D videos without the need for glasses.  That’s thanks to the special parallax barrier LCD screens and might just be the wave of the future (what with Nintendo opting to use the same technology in their newest handheld—the Nintendo 3DS.)
However, is pocket portability something most shooter would value over HD video?  Perhaps, if the pistol grip camcorder and display screen came saddle with a decent price tag.  $400 seems to be about the average for a similar set-up from a competing company (or cobbling your own together from multiple) but DGX decided to tack a few more bills onto that.  They want $600 for their machine and with that they’ve just priced themselves out of the game.
Camera package is available for preorder now and ships later this August but I’d hold out for the inevitable price drops if you really want to opt for this shooter over Panasonic’s.
